Students at NTU can now make cashless payments using new multi-use Smart Pass

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) launched a new multi-use Smart Pass for its 40,000 students and staff members, as part of NTU’s Smart Campus initiative to become Singapore’s largest Smart Campus. This is also in line with Singapore’s drive towards becoming a Smart Nation.

The NTU Smart Pass is embedded with a contactless identity chip and has a NETS FlashPay function, as part of a partnership with payment solutions provider NETS. The majority of retail and F&B outlets on campus are already equipped with the NETS contactless payment system. As a result, students and staff members in NTU can use the Smart Pass to pay for meals, retail purchases, parking on campus, and even photocopying services. The Smart Pass can also be used for other daily activities on campus, such as registering for health checks and consultations at the campus medical centre, borrowing materials from the library, booking facilities such as sports venues and study rooms, and paying for public transport. In addition, it doubles up as the identity card for the campus community.

This helps to make transactions much more convenient, as the card providers students and staff with a cashless payment option around campus.

NTU is looking into rolling out other cashless payment options such as mobile payment solutions like SG QR and NETSPay to complement the Smart Pass. In addition, there are plans to install cashless vending machines around NTU’s residential halls.
