On 13th September 2017, Unilever announced that it would be accepting 30 promising startups to participate in its Foundry30 SEAA programme. The startups are selected based on their ability to demonstrate a unique and exciting point of difference, and vision of positively creating technological, consumer and social change within the South East Asia region.

With a population of over 600 million people, the region was chosen by the global conglomerate based on its fast growing internet market and rising middle class, which makes the region such an exciting hotspot for Unilever and startups alike. As Unilever is striving to make sustainable living a global reality, choosing the rapidly growing South East Asia region as a base on which to develop promising startups is particularly apt.

While there are no restrictions on the stage of growth applicable to the aspirant startups, the sectors that Unilever is targeting are retail, media and advertising, brand and content innovation, data insights and personalisation, and sustainability and social impact. Successful startups will also be granted access to Unilever’s Level3 co-working facilities, where they will receive mentorship, guidance and collaboration opportunities. Level3 was launched as a partnership between Unilever Foundry and Padang & Co, and brings together the various Unilever brands and startups, tech experts as well as venture capitalists in a bid to create new partnerships and deliver real business impact. Although Unilever will not be directly funding startups, successful applicants will be able to have access to Unilever Ventures, the company’s investment arm.

On this note, FOMO Pay is proud to announce that we have been selected to join Unilever’s Foundry30 SEAA programme, which will undoubtedly prove to be an invaluable opportunity in allowing us to leverage on Unilever’s vast network connections. As our CEO Mr Louis Liu puts it, ‘[t]he vast experience spanning across industries in the Foundry is a massive learning platform as well as potential business opportunity for startups like us’. With a staggering 400 brands under Unilever’s wings, the prospect for FOMO Pay to learn from other successful companies will be instrumental in charting our future course. Given Unilever’s vast scale and history of global success, we see this chance for us to join the platform as a validation of our vision, and recognise the opportunity for us to tap on Unilever’s wide range of expertise.
